Product Description

Eucalyptus essential oil is steam distilled from the leaves of Eucalyptus globulus. It has long been valued for its clean, camphor-fresh aroma and clarifying character. Use it to freshen still air, support easier-feeling breath, and comfort-tired muscles when properly diluted.

Eucalyptus (Eucalyptus globulus) is the oil of clear air. Steam distilled from the leaves of the blue gum tree, it produces a thin, pale oil with a bright, camphoraceous scent—fresh, slightly sweet, and unmistakably medicinal in the best sense of the word.

For generations, eucalyptus has been kept for stuffy rooms, long days, and the moment when the air feels too heavy.

  • Diffused, it helps a space feel rinsed and easier to breathe in.
  • Diluted on the skin, it is a classic oil for the chest, upper back, and tired muscles after effort.

The aroma is cooling rather than floral, which is why it belongs in daytime rituals and seasonal care more than in a bedtime blend. It is a top-to-middle note. The first impression is sharp and clean; underneath is a soft woody sweetness that keeps the oil from feeling harsh when it is used sparingly.

A few drops in the diffuser, a light chest rub in jojoba, or a warm compress is often all that is needed. Eucalyptus globulus is a strong oil. Used with a light hand, it is one of the most useful bottles on the shelf.

Safety & Storage

  • For external use only unless directed by a qualified practitioner.
  • Keep out of reach of children.
  • If pregnant, nursing, or under medical care, consult a physician before use.
  • Do not use on or near the face of infants or children. High-cineole eucalyptus can slow breathing in young children. Many aromatherapists avoid Eucalyptus globulus under age 10.
  • Use caution if you have asthma or sensitive airways. Discontinue diffusion if coughing or tightness begins.
  • Avoid eyes, inner ears, and mucous membranes.
  • Dilute before skin use. Discontinue if irritation occurs.
  • Diffuse around adult pets only in a ventilated room they can leave. Do not apply to pets. Avoid use around birds, cats, small animals, and pets with health issues.
  • Store tightly capped in a cool, dark place. Best used within 2–3 years of opening.

How to Use

Always dilute before applying to skin. Patch-test a new bottle. Keep away from the faces of children.

Diffuse
Add 2–4 drops to your diffuser. Run 15–20 minutes in a well-ventilated room, then pause. Globulus is potent; more is rarely better.

Inhale
Place 1 drop on a tissue and breathe slowly from a short distance. Do not hold the tissue against the nose. Do not use in a closed room with infants or young children.

Steam (adults only)
Add 1 drop to a bowl of hot water. Keep your face at a comfortable distance, eyes closed. Inhale for a few minutes. Stop if you feel lightheaded or tight in the chest.

Topical/chest or muscle rub
Dilute to about 1–2% for healthy adults:

  • 6–12 drops per 1 oz (30 ml) carrier oil

Massage onto the chest, upper back, or tired legs and feet. Wash hands after applying. Do not use under the nose in a strong dilution.

Bath
Do not add neat oil to water. Mix 2–4 drops eucalyptus with 1 tablespoon carrier oil or unscented bath oil, then stir into a full tub. Adults only.

Compress
Add 2–3 drops to a bowl of warm water. Soak a cloth, wring out, and apply to the chest or sore muscles.
